Health & Safety Deployment Director, Sustainable Manufacturing & Sourcing
As our Sustainable Manufacturing & Sourcing Health and Safety (HS) Deployment Director, you will be responsible for deploying the Nike’s HS strategy. You will utilize a range of leadership approaches to influence and inspire Nike factory partners to take action in support of the strategy.
You will need strong consulting, communication and influencing skills to support the deployment of the HS strategies. This role will work cross-functionally and leverage functional expertise to develop actionable implementation plans. Additionally, you will need to collaborate with Nike’s SM&S field teams as well as third party consultants to ensure the highest level and consistency of HS practice. You will actively seek the field team and WHQ’s input when making improvements to existing tools/processes, solving problems and making decisions.
Additionally, you will track progress against HS performance metrics and regularly report progress against milestones. The position is in Singapore and reports to the Labor Director in Singapore. This role is a key link between World Headquarters (WHQ) vision / strategy, field deployment and execution at contract manufacturers.
Lead global deployment of Sustainable HS strategies. Support WHQ in creation of strategies and lead engagement to field execution work. Create HS deployment strategy by region.
Apply expert level professional HS knowledge and skills; utilize this knowledge to build capabilities of Nike field consultants, and manufacturing suppliers’ teams.
Collaborate / partner with key Nike stakeholders and business units (Footwear, Apparel, Equipment) to align on HS needs and objectives.
Drive ownership of factory capability development and achievement of performance targets by engaging and influencing key leaders at a factory group (e.g. senior leadership) level.
Lead coordination of Nike Global HS team to develop sharing of best practices, including playbooks and other materials; synchronize with factory groups.
Apply critical thinking to solve complex, multi-dimensional problems.
Understand HS best practices and trends and communicate the implications of risks on the supply chain.
Knowledge of health & safety regulations and requirements.
Deep understanding of HS strategies and approaches; recognized as expert in the HS field.
Advanced knowledge of trends in HS management systems and Culture of Safety.
Proven ability to prioritize information, develop action plans and execute complex business strategies.
A high tolerance to ambiguity; ability to work independently.
Strong interpersonal / influencing skills with excellent written and verbal communication skills (in English).
Technical experience in areas such as industrial hygiene, chemical management, and occupational health preferred.
- Previous people management experience, knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, and experience with Apparel and Footwear industries preferred
- Eight + years' progressively responsible experience in HS in a manufacturing environment.
- Advanced HSE professional certification – CSP (Certified Safety Profession) or equivalent preferred.
- Ability to travel (15-20%) with occasional work on the manufacturing production floor.
- Bachelor's degree in HS or related field; MBA or Master’s degree in HS preferred.
