Job Purpose

The nature of the work is focused on research and development of products from conception to retail to meet the needs of accounts and consumers. Performs scientific and technological investigation directed toward the acquisition of new knowledge. Research encompasses such endeavors as enlarging and systematizing the organizations knowledge base; understanding the limitations of technology and how to apply its capabilities; developing proof-of-concept prototypes; devising methods and tools for modeling, analyzing and developing products and services. Utilizes engineering knowledge and applies research towards the development and design of new products and processes


Core Accountabilities

 

Product Development/ Commercialization/ Production :  60%

  • Act as a flexible supporting technical resource within the category team during the Asian development phase to identify and alleviate potential manufacturing, efficiency or costing concerns.
  • Responsible for design for manufacturing to a level of proven and tested at the time of sample confirmation with accountability to a confirmed Process Flow Chart for the sample size at RFC.
  • Support commercialization and initial production of category products working closely with offshore Mfg. Teams to insure product meets consumer expectations.
  • Ensure consistency in materials, construction and production techniques that will provide superior fit and product integrity across the manufacturing base.
  • Responsible for accurately filling out relevant areas of the Process Flow Chart for the full size run prior to production startup and transfer to second source on every project.
  • Attend category teardowns, production trials and follow key projects into production starts- up as needed.
  • Lead Category initiatives in working with Category Director
  • Participate regular line walk-through to ensure proper process/ product quality is on the product.

  • Participate in annual Category Rollout meetings as requested by Category Leadership.
  • Hold regular meetings with off shore Mfg. and Category teammates on product and project related activities.
  • Participate in regular product related conference calls between WHQ and production source country Mfg. teams.

 
 Product Process:  20%

  • Responsible for understanding and working within best practice guidelines set by Category and Functional Leadership.
  • Collaborate with Category team members in the use of best practice, design for mfg./ environment guidelines.
  • Work closely and communicate often with Engineers in other manufacturing countries to obtain consistency in technical, development and production across respective category.
  • Understanding global trial definition process to get ready to support category.
  • Support CCED on regular process related survey, data collecting, data analysis.
  • RSL management.
  • Quarterly chemical formula updated to make sure factory chemical price is on the same page of NIKE WHQ.
  • Lead assigned chemical projects.
  • Quarterly Global Chemical engineer’s workload report updated.
  • Conduct various Technical Training programs through using in-house capabilities and leveraging the vendors' capabilities.
  • Support Chemical Vendor Supplier Governance, handling vendor issue.

 
Communication: 10%

  • Participate in regular product related conference calls between WHQ and production source country Mfg. teams.
  • Join / conduct monthly CE meeting to communicate with other CEs and experience / information sharing.
  • Support CCED on regular process related survey, data collecting, data analysis.

 
Mentoring/Leadership: 10%

  • Act as mentor to Engineer 1 to better prepare them for future growth and challenges.
  • Mentor PC engineer based on SPC/ KSM 
  • Instruct on Local Training curriculums


Requirements of the position include

  • Bachelor Degree in chemical or relevant industry
  • 5+ years directly relevant work experience 
  • Experience in apparel/ textile/ footwear
  • Work independently with minimal guidance
  • Good communication, influencing skill
  • Good problem solving and deliver solution, good analysis and decision making
  • FLUENT in spoken and written English and Vietnamese
