About the role

As Assistant General Counsel - Employment for Asia Pacific based at Nike's office in Singapore, you will be a part of the Nike Global Employment Law team, reporting to the Global Employment Counsel at Nike's World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, United States.

You will be responsible for providing advice and counsel to Human Resources and business managers on general employment law issues including consideration and implementation of policies and procedures.

You'll also partner in selecting and managing outside counsel for employment litigation and will lead the process through resolution. You'll coordinate and supervise responses to administrative charges and potential claims against the company. In addition, you'll provide advice and counsel with regard to legal compliance issues affecting employees and assist the Global Employment Counsel in developing strategies to respond to compliance issues.
Requirements
  • A qualified lawyer in a country in Asia Pacific or Greater China, regardless of jurisprudence, but familiarity with both common law and civil legal systems.
  • Minimum 8 years' experience in practice that is predominantly big firm and/or multi-national company in-house based, with exposure to litigation, investigations and regulatory audits, or generally a well-diversified practice experience.
  • Possessing deep familiarity and knowledge on technical law and practical issues, as well as being sensitive to the diversity of cultures, when giving employment law counseling on issues throughout Asia Pacific, with some experience in Greater China, Japan or Korea.
  • A native speaker of or having language proficiency in a local language in Asia Pacific. In particular, Mandarin, or Japanese or Korean will be a plus.
