Roles and responsibilities:

The Director, Government & Public Affairs role is to provide professional government and public affairs support to enhance Nike’s corporate profile, protect the company’s brand name, and support Nike’s business growth in Greater China region, particularly in the Shanghai/East China territory. Specifically, this role’s responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain robust relationships with key government agencies of relevance to Nike, including:
  • Shanghai municipal government
  • Shanghai Commerce Commission
  • Shanghai Industry and Commerce Bureau
  • Shanghai Tax Bureau
  • Shanghai Public Security Bureau
  • Shanghai Quality Inspection and Quarantine Bureau
  • Shanghai Customs
  • Shanghai Urban Management Bureau
  • District government officials of Yangpu, Jing’an, Huangpu, Xuhui, Pudong
  • Work with internal stakeholders to respond to issues in a speedy, coordinated and effective fashion
  • Represent Nike on important occasions and engagements to promote Nike’s brand name and China presence
  • Work with Senior Manager GPA to address internal business needs for GPA support, i.e. Legal, Finance/Tax, GCI, HR, Marketing, Territory, DTC, Digital, Brand Protection, Operations, Customer Service, etc.
  • Monitor, analyze and advise on important government policies, regulatory and legislative developments relevant to Nike, especially in the areas of e-commerce, data security, privacy, tax audits, anti-monopoly, product safety, consumer protection
  • Direct and work with designated trade and business associations and advocacy groups on legislative and regulatory issues of importance to the company

Requirements:

  • Deep understanding of the way government works and policies/laws are made in China
  • Extensive connections with key players in government offices of relevance to Nike
  • Demonstrated ability to work across different functions, teams and geos in a matrixed and intercultural organization
  • Experience in issue/crisis management
  • Team player with a positive, can-do attitude

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years’ experience in government/public/corporate affairs function
  • Experience working with diversified teams and cultures
  • Creative thinker and problem solver
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of  sports industry and retail sector a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree a minimum
